QOTD: Are top defencemen drafted at the top?

Taking a look at the 12 most recent defencemen who are or will be in the Hall of Fame yields some interesting results:

Larry Murphy #4
Scott Stevens #5
Phil Housley #6
Paul Coffey #6
Ray Bourque #8
Chris Chelios #40
Brian Leetch #9
Rob Blake #70
Al MacInnis #15
Chris Pronger #2
Nicklas Lidstrom #53
Scott Niedermayer #3

12 HOF defencemen
4 drafted Top 5
8 drafted Top 10
9 drafted Top 15
3 drafted 2nd-4th round

So what do this all mean?

Not all defencemen drafted high become Hall of Fame defencemen (Berg, Zyuzin, etc) but if you want a future Hall of Famer to anchor your defence your chances of finding one outside the Top 10 are very slim.
