No More Player of the Week Awards

So apparently the NHL has dropped their Player of the Week awards and are now giving out 'Three Stars' of the week. No word on whether the player with the most points at the end of the year will win the Molson Cup but in case you were wondering, this week's top three are (1) Marty Turco, (2) Martin Havlat and (3) Mats Sundin.

Personally I think this may be a case of trying to be different from other sports just for the sake of it. If I'm Havlat I'd much rather be the "Offensive Player of the Week" then the "Second Star/Deuxieme Etoile".

If Havlat continues to produce at a high level (he clearly won't put up 2.5 PPG), Sens fans will be wondering how they couldn't have gotten more in return. Perhaps instead of bringing SJ into the deal they should have tried to get Bell and one of the Hawks' young defencemen along with prospect(s) and/or pick(s).
