Jan 23, 2000: Carolina Hurricanes traded Keith Primeau and a 5th round selection (later traded to NY Islanders - Kristofer Ottosson) in 2000 to the Philadelphia Flyers for Rod Brind'Amour, Jean-Marc Pelletier and a 2nd round selection (later traded to Colorado - Agris Saviels) in 2000.

Despite the fact that Primeau was forced to retire due to concussion problems, this trade was closer then you would probably think. Through the five seasons where Primeau was healthy following the trade to Philly, he outplayed Brind'Amour in three of them. The last year he played, Primeau really flourished in the playoffs and he carried the team within one game of the finals.
While Primeau never could quite lead the Flyers to the Cup, Brind'Amour won a ring last season in Carolina at age 35. He also played a key role in the Canes' run to the finals in 2002. Due to the fact that he has been more successful in the playoffs and that he is still going strong, Carolina gets the edge in this deal. But had Primeau not been seriously injured this trade could have very easily swung in the other direction.
