Game of the Night

The Buffalo Sabres are the story of the young season and tonight they go for a franchise record 9-0 to start the year. Montreal is coming off an offensive explosion of their own, putting up 8 at home against Jose Theodore.

The Sabres don't seem to be missing Connolly (injured), Dumont (Nas), Grier (SJ) and McKee (STL) as the team has shown fantastic chemistry and outstanding depth. Two years ago the Sabres couldn't give Afinogenov away after five straight years at or below 40 pts and now he is leading the entire league. Daniel Briere was stolen from the Coyotes for Chris Gratton in 2003 and just months later Chris Drury was acquired from Calgary. These three make up the heart of the Sabres' potent offense.

For Montreal they have to be happy with the way Koivu has bounced back from his eye injury and thrilled with the offensive play of Sheldon Souray who struggled at times last year. Youngster Chris Higgins has progressed nicely and has shown that he's able to put the puck in the net with frequency.

The goaltending matchup will likely be Miller vs Huet after Aebischer gave up five vs Colorado. The Huet-Aebischer debate will be continue to be a hot topic in Montreal, especially if Cristobal doesn't step up his play. Tonight's game would be a great time to start. All good things must come to an end and I'm going with Montreal tonight at home.
