Game Thoughts
Thanks to transmission problems with the cable company who shall remain nameless (unless this happens again) the only game I was able to watch tonight was Toronto-Philly. I felt so helpless knowing that there were games on (very good ones like Pittsburgh-Anaheim and Dallas-Vancouver) that I just couldn't watch. Ok so it wasn't that bad but after going out on Saturday night and then just the one game on Sunday, I was looking forward to relaxing and watching some great hockey.

Instead I got Toronto-Philly, which meant I had to rely on highlights and reading to get much of my game thoughts tonite.

* Philly is no longer off to a horrible start. They are a horrible team and it's time for them to make some moves
* Just an idea but maybe those moves should start with the guy who is now -17
* Nittymaki gave up a few weak ones tonight and looked shaky. The Leafs hit quite a few posts too..
* Leafs had a huge breakdown to allow the Philly goal - luckily nobody in the Platinum section saw it because it was early in the period
* Antropov scored! Antropov scored!
* Flyers are 3-10-1.
* Raycroft is on again. Soon he will be off again
* I heard Raycroft had a little meltdown in the postgame interview. Didn't catch the interview but one of my loyal readers informed me that Raycroft was not so impressed with Paul Hendrick. Apparently in the interview after the three stars ceremony (in front of the entire ACC) Hendrick started his second question with "8 wins matches your total of last year..." and Raycroft said "thanks for bringing that up again" and he walked away.
* This is Philly's worst start in their 40-year history* The Sens looked very good and then very bad
* Beautiful pass by Spezza to setup the first goal
* Vermette has great wheels
* Sens looked like they were pouring it on - 3 goals on 5 shots, then Kolzig was yanked
* Ovechkin tied it up late on a very strange goal
* Gerber took the loss and was not happy at all. Somehow I think the Sens are not so happy with him either
* Semin had three assists after being demoted to the 4th line last game
* Volchenkov played great - I have a hard time believing that Muckler would move either Volchenkov or Meszaros* Mike Smith got the start and looked like Felix Potvin early, letting in a long-one from center ice
* Vancouver's Alexander Edler picked up his first NHL point
* Lindros scored again and continued his nearly PPG pace
* Smith made a huge save off Josh Green on a breakaway
* Pyatt scored late on the PP to take two points for the Canucks* Malkin's early turnover helped Anaheim score
* Chris Thorburn had his first NHL goal
* Ducks outplayed the Pens, outshooting them 40-17
* Selanne scored in OT on the PP with Noah Welch sitting in the box
* Another win for the Ducks and their 15th straight without a regulation loss* Atlanta is lethal on the PP, led by Kovalchuk who had a hat trick
* Probably not a great idea to give them 13 power play attempts
* Hedberg started his third straight and won against - poor Tim Thomas faced 15 shots by Kovalchuk and Hossa combined
* Hossa scored a beautiful goal and set up two
* Boyes and Bergeron each had two points - they're off to pretty slow starts so maybe this will give them a boost
* Despite all the big off-season moves the Bruins are only three points ahead of Philadelphia for last in the Conference* Dunham and Homqvist got the start in New York
* St. Louis and Lecavalier each now have 9 game point streaks
* Kuba scored a pair (his first two of the year) and Prospal had two points
* Childhood friends and College teammates St. Louis and Perrin combined for a goal for the first time in the NHL

That is an interesting point that your reader brought up about Raycroft. I agree with Rayzor, people should stop asking him about last year. It's a new year and he has yet to prove if he's a top goalie, but he's definitely not the second worst goalie as he was last season.
